fataledge wrote Sorry for continually posting about laptop reccomendations. I'm taking everything into consideration. I just have serious buyers remorse and I want to have as many options as possible. With that out of the way,

Budget & Currency: $700 USD (not including taxes/shipping)

Screen Size: 14+ inches

Software: Photoshop, Sony Vegas, C4D. Maybe the occasional Minecraft game.

Details: I'm willing to buy refurbished or used. I'd love for it to be portable but it isn't a major need. SSD would be cool but I understand it would be hard to fit it in this kind of budget.

I'll be recommending a lot of Thinkpads, in case anyone was wondering. Here's a refurbished (the outlet has good refurbs, too) T420 with a solid i5, a 1600 x 900 screen, and an Nvidia Quadro workstation graphics chipset. Only 2GB of RAM, but with RAM as cheap as it is, upgrade it to 8 for under $40.

These don't last long at all, so if you're not buying VERY soon, I'll find you another one. I recommend Thinkpads because of their unbeatable build quality, cooling, features, durability, keyboards, reliability, upgrade-ability, and battery life. They're not huge, either. Just business-class awesomeness.

Check out this one too: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

You get an Nvidia GT 630M with Optimus meaning you'll be able to game pretty well, and still have great battery life, watch out with workstation GPU's because they don't always game too well.

Plus it pretty much fits your other requests. And for a bit more money you can upgrade it to a pretty nice CPU.

The Sager looks good. But it's a little over my budget. Is there anything I could get for a lesser price that would be comparable? I really like the Lenovo build quality and reputation so I'll probably be going with that T420.

Here's the link to the Lenovo Outlet. I made it show all the real Thinkpads available from low to high price. It takes a minute to load, be patient!

Here's something I just found:

If you through out the monitor from the budget then this is doable, but the monitor kills the budget. Anyway you can go a bit higher?

Alright, well I don't need a list for a full build, but I do need some help from you guys on what to do. Basically during each summer holiday I always go to Lithuania to visit all my family and stuff. Sometimes it can get fairly boring with people having to be at work etc and I don't feel like watching TV as the only good thing to watch is the discovery channel and that gets boring eventually. Anyways previously I've taken my xbox with me and played on live with my friends. But my xbox is now broke and I've also switched to PC, therefore I can't really take my xbox.

So I thought it would be cool to take my PC, but that's pretty much impossible as I have a a huge and heavy CM HAF 912 case and I can't really bring that with me on a aeroplane. So I thought I'd just buy another xbox from the xbox marketplace on TTG, like from JTAG-GALORE or someone. So I looked and it would cost 85GBP for me to get an xbox from him with a power brick. So I thought hell no. I came up with a stupid and maybe crazy idea. Buy a cheap, really small and light case and a new really cheap and small motherboard. Now I don;t know if this is a smart idea or just plain stupid. for some reason I rather spend money on some PC parts than get another xbox. What do you guys think of this?

If I was to take a PC with me, I would have to take in a small suitcase as hand luggage right? Because if I put it with the main luggage they throw that shit around and it could break something? or not? Well I figured inside the plane with me would be a smarter idea. So I looked at the maximum size restrictions of the hand luggage and I've got a small suitcase that's the maximum size possible for the hand luggage. The size restrictions are 550x400x200. (it will have to be even smaller as there won't be actually that much space in the bag) Could you get a case that small? Also I need all of this to work with the current stuff I have in my PC ; which is :

Motherboard : AsRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3
CPU : i5 2500K - Stock @ 3.3GHz
CPU Cooler : CoolerMaster Hyper212 Evo
GPU : XFX AMD Radeon HD 6870 (HD-687A-ZHFC)
RAM : 8GB Corsair XMS3 (2x4GB) DDR3 @ 1600MHz
PSU : Corsair CX600 v2
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 500GB Sata III (ST500DM002) & Seagate Barracuda 5900RPM 2TB Sata III (ST2000DL003)

I'm guessing micro-atx is the way too go? I'd need a new motherboard. what cheap motherboard could I get which supports all my components?

Should I bother doing this or not? If you can find some parts for me that would be great. Try keep the budget at 70GBP or lower. Everything needs to be light and the max weight for hand luggage cant be over 10KG (No-one even weighs those things, dunno why I bother with the weight restrictions -_- )

Tell me what you think. Thank you ;)

Funny, we are all just discussing Micro ATX builds and generally tiny builds and how we'd do them. It sounds like you'd want something REALLY tiny, which is completely doable, but that budget is restrictive. Assuming all conversions are correct, which they're probably not, you could get this motherboard:

Along with a mini-ITX case that supports a full-size graphics card. This MIGHT be able to fit your budget, but I'll have to do some searching for a case that works under budget. Then we'll have to see if the're available in the UK. This can totally work!
