Yes, the update cannot regenerate your world to include clay in the map. If you make a new world however, clay will be generated into the new map. I made a new world and there is loads of clay everywhere

the update was to fix bugs no th 1.7.3 or whatever that comes with clay and pistons

This was 100% the update with clay, I don't know what you're talking about
