iOS 6 Beta 1 Review
First impressions count!
Recently apple have announced the release of there new OS rather conveniently named iOS 6. Anyone with a developers account on Apple can gain access and enjoy the latest and possibly coolest features to date.
So you may ask, what are the pro's to iOS 6? Well Sir you won't be disappointed, Apple have spent there time changing a few things around, at first glance you can see that they have released a new built in application called 'Passbook' This is what apple have to say about there new application...
"With Passbook, you can scan your iPhone or iPod touch to check in for a flight, get into a film and redeem a voucher. You can also see when your vouchers expire, where your concert seats are, and the balance left on that all-important coffee bar card. Wake your iPhone or iPod touch, and passes appear on your Lock screen at the appropriate time and place"
Id say that's a step in the right direction, after all I'm not really one for carrying around papers and cards everywhere, I have trouble just looking after any money that I have!
Delving deeper...
Well, I'm still undecided on my opinion of the new layouts, I think they do look nice, but are they swaying away from the classical Apple style that we are so used to. With new layouts added for several different applications across the board you will have to draw up your own conclusion on the looks side of things. I think we can safely put this one down to personal preference.
The Maps!
Now, the new map system really is something that apple can boast about, providing 3D maps and new 'Turn by Turn' navigation , The iPhone will now even suggest if there is a faster route due to traffic! the panning, tilting and rotation is all flawlessly smooth and the high resolution maps just adds to the already saucy equation! The Maps now even include data straight from TOMTOM, Why you may ask?! because now you can even show traffic jams and traffic hotspots! Apple are certainly onto a winner here.
Siri?! iPhone 4s Users only!
The Siri update has come into effect! I'm pleased to announce that yes Siri is finally fully compatible with the U.K and other countries around the world, after the slight hiccup of Siri not being able to locate anything outside of the U.S at all! (whoops!) HOWEVER! don't get your hopes sky high just yet! because Siri is still kind of inaccurate, for example two cases, I asked Siri to find the nearest Mcdonalds and the nearest Burger King, but instead it shew me to local restaurants. Well I can't blame Siri for having a fine wine and dine taste in food's. I guess some of us just don't enjoy the cheap crap Mcdonalds Supply! But all in all Siri is improving. It will find locations, pull up the current scores for soccer games, find restaurants, specific shops, launch your apps, update your facebook status and even pull up movie trailers! Now that's impressive!
Updates to Safari?
There have been a few updates to Safari, giving you more features and a cool new menu to do stuff such as, Mail, Text, Tweet, Facebook or even print the webpage your on, so that means if you've found something cool on TheTechGame.Com on your mobile, you can quickly text it to your friend for them to have a look!
Facebook integrated into iOS
Yes, you heard it! Facebook has finally been integrated into the Apple operating system, "Share photos from the Camera app, locations from Maps, links from Safari, high scores from Game Center and more. Or post a status update from Notification Center or with Siri" For those of you who don't have Siri and are Facebook lovers, you can find a quick update section under the drop down notification center at the top of the screen! allowing you to update your status quickly and easily!
Calling updates?!
Apple have decided to change the way you reject calls, so now you have the choice to reject in style, at the push of a button you can select pre integrated or custom text messages to keep the excuses rolling!, In the new iOS you can even set a reminder to call them back at a later time at a touch of a button! This is definitely a winner for apple. Considering they have just come from a simple call answering/rejecting format! there is also now privacy and 'Do not disturb' Options programmed into the phone, so when you're asleep your phone will automatically reject any calls! clever stuff.
So far I believe I have currently covered everything that the common Apple user will need to know about the new updates, but if there's any more you think I should add then of course feel free to chuck me a PM.
In Conclusion
over all I'd give the new apple software A 8/10 and that coming from quite a harsh critique, Bravo apple you've succeeded this time!
Credits to ColdK1ller for selling me the uDID activation, you can find his original thread here, completely legitimate, its $3 for uDID activation, but IMO its worth it. ColdK1llers Thread
