Hello. I've already posted in the Custom PC Topic about choosing a laptop. However, I suffer from SEVERE buyers remorse. Due to this, I don't want to buy a laptop, then find something that could better suit my needs. I've noticed that r00t_b33r, who is really knowledgeable in PCs and Notebooks, loves Lenovo Thinkpads. And while I've come to like Lenovo, I don't want to limit my options due to the above stuff .
So are there any Brands / Models that I should consider. I already know a few:
Buy From:
*Lenovo
*HP
*Asus
*Acer (I always hear that the Aspire series is good. But whenever I see their monitors in the custom PC topic people are like "I know its an Acer monitor but...")
*Dell
No buy:
*Apple
*Alienware
*Gateway (I've looked at their laptops and they are pretty cheapy and don't offer very portable models)
--
As far as Models go, I'm just looking for something that's 14 inches or larger, under 5 pounds, i3/i5 processor, Integrated or Dedicated graphics card (doesn't really matter. I'd prefer dedicated but I won't be doing serious gaming).

Gateway is HP's sister company. I've owned an Acer notebook in the past and it has its legendary terrible build quality ( mainly with weak hinges and flexible keyboard ). Even modern Acer ultrabooks have sub par build quality to lower the cost ( read a couple of reviews and comparisons on 'em ). Honestly, if you have the budget, opt for a HP Folio. Perfect screen size, decent resolution for the size of that panel, 128gb SSD, nice trackpad from what I've read, and a middle of the range battery life. It's not very bulky or heavy either as wanted.

I'm gonna assume you mean the Apple and Alienware. Alienware looks like one of those toy laptops you buy a 3 year old to play little games on (except it costs a hell of a lot more lol) and Alienware has terrible customer support. Also, Apple, while having nice laptops, have really overpriced laptops. You could get the same thing for much less. This is why I do research before I buy stuff. I too almost made the mistake of paying $400-800 more than I needed to for a laptop.
Also the HP Folio looks cool. When you said "if you had the budget" I was expecting something past $1200.

Hit the nail right on the head with that Apple comment
The HP Folio is a great bang for your buck machine. If you have patience, you may want to wait for Asus' new line of Ultrabooks with 1080p IPS panels which would look stunning. My brother has a HP laptop that basically matches everything you're asking for in the OP, but the battery life is horrific and that's the main problem with a lot of laptops - discrete video cards don't help either.
