S1L3NTPH33R wrote yes their fairly easy to install just look it up. gtx 550 ti is a good start card for 100-160 depending make or cooling.

+ You will need to make sure your PSU has sufficient power, as most PSUs that come in pre built Dells or whatever have poor power supplies which don't allow upgrades. 500w should be more than enough for a 550ti or even a 560ti depending on what your budget is.

Also you will need to make sure your case has adequate cooling so the card can breath. Any card starting from a 550ti/6770 will need a large mid tower with a few fans to push the air around the case.

Upgrading your GPU is not as easy as it sounds, in most cases it would be beneficial to just build a new PC, if you can afford it that is.

On a card like the gtx 550 ti a 300w psu is fine my cousin runs one he decently well. sure the better the PSU the better the card performance but if a game is unplayable than you need an update either computer or graphics.

I have the GTX 560 Ti, that cost me quite a bit and runs it smoothly on full settings, just try with the integrated, you should be able to buy a low end card that runs it ok you don't need a high end card like mine.

The minimum power requirement for the 550 is 400w, running on an under-powered PSU isn't a good idea it's just plain stupid.

That is not true at all, the performance will stay the same if you have a 500w PSU or if you have a 1000w PSU.

I suppose you mean the PSU can sometimes bottleneck the card and decrease performance as the card won't have the required power that it needs to run at full load.

Yes, I'm getting at bottlenecking the card, as of right now I don't have any of his spec I'm assuming he has a 300w PSU, considering its an older computer, but the best upgrade would be for him to upgrade to a gtx 550ti sure spacing is key in a case to let the graphics card breathe and have good temperatures. all I'm saying is a gtx 550ti would be the best upgrade or a radeon. Any Mid size ATX case usually have enough space though, as I said I'm not sure what hes running.
