Many designers use PCs. Many non-designers use Macs. It's all preference. Don't kid yourself that "designers" use Macs. Unless you need one of the few Mac-exclusive programs (like FCP), it's the same programs on either OS.

But frankly, most traditional designers don't care about specs. They aren't tech junkies, or even big on computers at all. They want something that just works, and that's what Apple sells itself on.

I guess the reason designers use Macs is because when Photoshop first came out it was exclusive to Macs, just an old tradition I guess. Literally everyone on my course has either a Macbook Pro or iMac. But there is a few useful advantages with OS X, its A LOT more reliable and windows are a lot easily spaced, it just works.

Since my years at college and around professionals I've not seen one designer with a PC, and I've seen a lot of documentaries, seen a lot of books and talked to a lot of people and PCs and practically unheard of.

Yes, it is a tradition. Macs were the best for design years back. Most designers were around when that was true, so most of them still use them and suggest that their peers/students do the same. However, as someone that's going to a design school, I can tell you that the current generation of designs doesn't care if they're on Mac or Windows. Half of my peers use Windows-based laptops.

And Macs are more reliable because there was no third party making faulty devices/drivers and users have less control, so they're less likely to screw something up. If you're okay with computers, either OS is just as reliable. If you're not, then Macs are much more reliable.
And the windows thing is just silly. The window borders on Windows are ~4-6px. The only thing that matters is screen resolution, which is independent of the OS.

I'm just going to hop into this conversation.

I think both are fine for anything. Everyone has there own decision and thoughts. It really depends what people want like the look of it, what it can do and things like that. I think it's just a personal decision.

I personally like Apple Computers and Netbooks mainly to how they look but also how flawless they run. Both PC and Mac are just as powerful and both have disadvantages and advantages.

You can't use clock speed to compare CPUs with different silicon anymore. Maybe a few decades ago that would be a valid point of comparison, but no longer. I could overclock my phone to 5 GHz on liquid helium (just a silly example, of course) and it would still be destroyed by a modern desktop CPU with half the clock speed. An i5 2500K at 3.2 GHZ will be slower than an i5 2500K at 3.9 GHz, though. That's really the only thing that number is good for.

I have a 600 Windows Custom PC that is better than your god knows how much Mac..

I like Apple got the new ipad and macbook pro but as my main computer I would never use an apple computer.

Liquid Helium overclock, that would just be epic!

I would give it a 9/10...better than my setup
