From footage of Halo 4s ranking system at the end of each game shows a ranking system very similar from Halo Reaches, but since 343i said that it would be completely different I think that the rank you earned is only for that playlist. So say you are playing infinity slayer and rank up it would only be for that playlist similar to halo 3s ranking system but with reach ranks.

I heard it was going to revert to an updated version of Halo 3's Trueskill system, to reward the skilled players more.
Example:
In social play-lists you will earn an overall ranking (just like reach) but for ranked playlist you will receive a highest skill (similar to halo 3).
That will keep it competitive for the competitive players, but the leisure gamers will enjoy it as well/
I'm tired, it's late.. that probably didn't make sense but its a combo of both

It's been confirmed that there isn't any true-skill ranking system in Halo 4
This is found on Halo4's sticky above.
I honestly have no idea on what to expect for Halo 4's ranking system, but I am open to change so no matter what they have decided to do with it I'm sure I'll be fine with it.

Please DO NOT spread false information like that. Your quote supports this guy's theory! It is confirmed that "True Skill" will not be earned and utilized in the way it is in Reach. This could mean that it will revert to a Halo 3 or Halo 2 True Skill system.
The bottom line is that there will be a skill system, it will be much more accurate than Reach, and the public is currently unaware as to how exactly it works.

jozhuaaaaaaaa wroteYes, like Halo: Reach.. Halo: Reach's was just plain out weird, you could be an Inheritor and matched with someone like a Corporal or Warrant Officer, which was bad.Woobie wrote I heard it was going to revert to an updated version of Halo 3's Trueskill system, to reward the skilled players more.

Halo 3's system was much more better since you get matched with people close to your level, well not necessarily social but in Ranked you did.
