*Give me your Requests*

Hello all of TTG and welcome to my Gimp tutorial thread for Gimp users only. I will be
uploading tutorials to help all of you Gimp users out there and you can
request a tutorial and hopefully I will be able to help you out.

Tips
1. Everytime you open up Gimp click on your Move Tool
and select Move the active layer. This makes it so
when your have to move something that is really small you just
click and drag instead of having to click directly on the layer.

How To Make Scanlines
First, make a new file 5x5 pixels and go to Advanced

Options and click on Transparency then Ok.

Now zoom in with the Magnifying Glass until it gets

big and take out your Pencil Tool and select the

brush Circle (01) and have the scale on 1.00

Make sure your FG color is black and fill in the

blocks like so.

You can fill it in any direction just make sure its

the direction you want.

Next, go to Edit > Copy > Edit > Paste as > New

Pattern then fill in the Pattern name and File name

and then press on Ok.

Now that you have saved the scanline to your patterns

you can use it at anytime. To use it go to your

Bucket Fill/Paint Tool, double-click it, select

Patern fill, and choose the scanline you just made.

Then click on your picture and lower the opacity and

do whatever you want with it.

Hope I helped!

Making a TTG Avatar
Okay, so I am going to be making a Lil' Wayne avatar and I will be making it black and white and then adding red to the spots that used to be red. The picture is kinda big for the project but whatever.

Original Picture - [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

First, make a new file with whatever size you want, I chose 150px by 150px because 100x100 pixels is too small for me and the site makes it smaller anyways (I also make my new projects transparent, but you don't need to)

Next, line the picture up with your canvas until you get it where you want it. I made his head and his hat in the picture.

After that, use the paths tool to outline around the red part (in this case the hat) and one you are finished you should have something like this.

Tip: It is easier and comes out nicer when you zoom in on the picture and then outline it.

Then click enter so it makes a selection then right click on Copy because we will have to paste it later on.

Go to Colors > Desaturate > Lightness > Ok

Your picture should look like this so far

Now, create a new layer and paste the red hat and then zoom in and match it up with black and white hat. If you did it correctly it will look like this.

Now comes the easy part, we are going to add text. I will be using the font Bebas Neue (you could find it on DaFont.c o m) I made my text in red, put it in a spot I liked and then lowered the opacity to 60.0 (Optional)

And now you have a cool avatar. Hopefully it is a decent tutorial and I might make another one some other time with brushes and stuff.

Making Clear Text
Welcome to another tutorial by Gazarn and lets get right into it.

So first, go to your Text Tool and type in whatever you want and then go to Filters > Light and Shadow > Xach Effect.

Now there is a glowy thing around you text and you don't need that so go to Select > None

Then, you should have gotten more layers so go to the one that has your text and delete it. After that, click on the layer that says Highlight and lower the opacity to around 40. I usually like reducing the shadows opacity too but it's totally optional.

You can mess around with the options until it fits your needs. And, if you want to move the text around you could merge the layers into one or click the chain button next to the eyeball and move them like that incase you want to change anything later.

Here's how mine came out.

Making a Border (Around picture or text)
A border is really simple to make.

Make sure that your FG color is black

Go to your background layer, right-click, Alpha to Selection.

Then, go to Select > Shrink > 1 (your choice)

Select > Invert > Edit > Fill with FG color > Select > None

It should look similar to this

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

And also here is a border for around your text

Make a New Layer underneath your text layer

Right Click on your text layer > Alpha to Selection

Click on layer below the text we just made

Select > Grow > (your #) > Edit > Fill with FG color

Hope I helped!

Make a Glossy Effect (Around BG or text)
Create a New Layer

Get your ellipse/circle tool

Make a semi- circle on the top of the BG like so

Then take your Bucket Tool and fill the circle in white.

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Now just lower the opacity!

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

And this works with the Rectangle Select Tool

also as shown when I do the text gloss

Make a New Layer and then get your tool and make your circle/square

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Fill it with white

Right click on your text layer and select Alpha to Selection

Go back to the gloss layer and go to Select > Invert

Click your Delete key on your keyboard

and then lower the opacity!

Hope I helped!

Centering Pictures, Text, etc.
Select your picture/text

Go to Layer > Autocrop Layer

Double Click on your Alignment Tool

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Click on your picture/text

and then click on the "Align center of target button"

And finally the "Align middle of target" button

If you did the steps right it should look like this
