Why do people in the first two games take the game so seriously? I am in no way a beast at Gears 2 and i just played a Guardian match and went 5 and 7 and this guy started trashing me saying i was a "bad kid" and all this other bs and i just found myself asking the same question. Why do people care so much? Why can they not just enjoy the game..

Because most people who play games, play to win.
I myself hate when people are completely useless on my team. I understand you play your way (not directed at you just people in general) but it's irritating. I can't stand watching them play. But if your talking and your cool I'm fine with the way you play. A lot of my friends aren't the best a games but I don't care because their awesome people.
That's just my opinion and thoughts.

People will always be competitive! its in our nature we want to be the best personally i love the rush of wining a close match where i have to try as hard as i can to win!
