hi, im looking at buying a new computer however i don't really know much about them so id like some help . my current computer is a laptop, an acer aspire 5720. Im wondering on whether its better for me to sell my laptop and buy a new laptop for roughly 500GBP. or to keep my laptop and buy a desktop, to link to my tv, for roughly 350GBP.
In terms of performance, im looking for a machine that runs most things smooth, i dont play a lot of games on the computer however i would still like a computer capable of playing any i may want to play (command and conquer generals 2 for example). I think the main things i want are a good processor, decent amount of ram, and a decent graphics card. as long as my hard drive was at least 250gb i wouldnt mind since i have a 2tb external hard drive. Also noise is quite a big issue, a quiet computer would mean a lot to me .
Also i would like to note that although i know nothing about building computers, i believe im more than capable of trying and would do so, given that someone told me what to buy to go in. ie i have no idea what parts are compatable with which.
thanks for reading and i look forward to reading your replies.

Well in terms of performance to play any game really, you will want a desktop. The sad truth is, good laptops are REALLY expensive, and for the same price, you could still build a better desktop. I don't know exactly how much 350GPB is because I am an American, but that doesn't sound like much. Probably like $450 dollars.
For a decent gaming PC, it will cost you probably 600-750GPB. Of course that is just an estimate as I think that is something like $800-$1000 dollars. If you could, save up a little bit, watch some Youtube videos, and build a desktop. As it will be much cheaper than buying one.
Hope that I help. If you would like to do this sort of thing, and you don't know where to look, just post below saying and I will link you to some videos.

Look for the socket type on the processor, and find a motherboard that has that CPU socket type. Basically everything else is compatible with everything.
