im getting minecraft tonight and was just wonderng if anyone knew any good beginner tips that would be helpful and maybe save me some trouble by not having to find out the hard way

i advise you to not build your house out of sand or gravel

Get it for computer. It's a lot better ;)

I know this goes for a lot of games, but go through the entire Tutorial. Especially since there is a supposed update tonight that adds more content. The game is pretty self-explanatory. But if you're uncomfortable, you should go through the tutorial.

Always dig a block away from your current position.

Digging out the block directly above That can lead to sand or gravel falling on your head and suffocating you. Digging out the block directly below? A quick fall into a cave or lava.

If you aren't too familiar, you could visit the megathread sticky. That helped me get started in minecraft.
