Without a doubt get the Les Paul.

It really depends on what you will be playing tho. If you are going to play metal maybe the other one will be better, but if your playing rock then the Les Paul.

In my opinion, I would go with the BC Rich. Many people would just automatically flock to the Gibson because it says "Gibson". If it were a higher class Gibson, I'd say go with the Gibson. But in this case, I highly recommend the BC Rich. I too play BC Rich's. Im trying to save up for a Ibanez Mick Thomson Signature. The feel you get out of the BC Rich is amazing. It has great tone and sound. Long sustains, vibratos work well without cancellation as well. If I were you, since its your birthday, I would definitely get the BC Rich, and also ask your parents for both a Boss distortion and a chorus pedal.

Absolutely. I play metal as well. I like to play and cover songs by Chevelle, Slipknot, Asking Alexandria, Bullet for My Valentine, Tool, and a few other artists. The BC Rich is the perfect instrument for your metal needs.

Instead of getting a BC Rich, i personally say you should get an Ibanez. For the first 3 years i was playing i had an Ibanez GRG270 and it was without a doubt the best guitar i've ever owned in the 100-300 pounds range, i picked mine up for 280 pounds around 6 years ago so im sure now you could find an ever better quality Ibanez for cheaper, I have a BC Rich in my collection right now, and don't get me wrong it is a good guitar, but I've found myself getting more enjoyment out of playing a Gould Les Paul-shaped guitar than my BC Rich.

Make sure you have a decent amp too, such as a Line 6 Spider IV which you can easily pick up between 60-100 pounds, which is a pretty decent 15-watt amp which has a great sound to it IMO.

Ibanez's are great. Between the two he wanted though, the BC Rich is obviously the best choice of the two.

I've played guitar for like 8 years now and I've had a lot of guitars. I've had a strat, an SG, a les paul, and i recently purchased a schecter. I **** LOVE IT. Even a cheap schecter is perfect for metal. I play a lot of dream theater, opeth, nevermore, tool, and symphony x. I have the Schecter Hellraiser c-7 FR. Not really in your price range though. I'd just look around a little more before you pick one.

This is the one I have

also you're gonna need an amp. Any idea what you're getting? This is an amazing, really cheap amp that has great distortion. I started out with it.

Ibanez TBX15R
