So are you waiting or not? Don't make me wonder like this, if you read the OP you'd know I'm not too keen on people "planning ahead" or "seeing what they can get."

Tell me when you're ready to buy, because I strongly recommend a T420 from the Lenovo Outlet. The deal with the Outlet is that what they stock is VERY inconsistent and there could be nothing one day and some stupid insane deals the next. What I would do is get the funds in order and start checking this site frequently, maybe a few times a day.

If it's not done already, set it to show only Thinkpads and more specifically the T, X, W, and X-tablet models. They're the only ones I can recommend, the Edges are nowhere near as good. Once you've set it up to show the good Thinkpads arranged from low to high price with all shown on the page, bookmark it! The site often takes some time to load even though it appears to be doing nothing. Give it a minute, it'll pull through.

What you should look for is something like a T420 with an i5, 4GB RAM, any storage, and a 1600 x 900 screen. 1366x768 just doesn't cut it. Another option would be the T520, which is available with a 108p display. I've seen both of these well under $700 with great specs! The reason I say not to worry about RAM or hard drive capacity is because you'll want to swap it out for your own anyway. $100 will get you a 1TB hard drive and $40 will get you 8GB of RAM. Much cheaper this way and you'll get better performance.

It does take a little bit more effort, but these laptops are worth much more than what you can get them for. This is just one of the many reasons I'm so quick to recommend Thinkpads. There's also battery life, build quality, durability, input quality, customization, software, reliability, serviceability, screen finish and quality, heat management, I/O... I could go on. Generation's been drooling over Thinkpads lately after wondering why I liked them at first! I LOVE these things, and with good reason!

I don't think you realize how much we appreciate it when people post back. Really. For all we know, 90% of our builds are destined never to be built because we get no response. I can't wait to see pics, tomorrow my parts come in as well!
