Music evolves, Enough said.
You will need to play years and years to become a famous Punk band, whereas if you're a metalcore/hardcore band you're more likely to get you fame because that's where rock has gone
Rock > Glam > Metal > Hardcore/Metalcore
But now all of those are starting to die because all bands do the same stuff, it needs to evolve.

In my opinion, I don't think it's dead.
Even though I'm not a big fan.

HitThelLights wrote its becuase no one in this society wants to pick up and just master the instrument they just want to be in a band to make money. for example Prince i think is the most talented musician ever. he plays 27 instruments just look him up youtube
Actually that is the exact reason I started playing guitar. I don't want to be in a band, it is more important to understand its about making beautiful music and not about money or being famous. A lot of people just want to show off what they can do with a peice of wood and strings in their hands which is not music at all.
I obvious do not plan on becoming famous but I do plan on becoming a musician whether I become well known or not is irrelevant.
Also I don't see anything wrong with being in a band aslong as you're absorbed in the music and not just playing to impress people that's fine.

I think partly it's to do with people using the word 'rock' for any old type of music, people refer to some pop songs as rock n roll when I think TRUE rock bands are like acdc. Classics.

This thread. I don't understand it. Rock isn't dying; quite the opposite to be frank. Sure, it may have fallen from grace in the public's eye as a whole and is gravitating towards a genre whose music allows people to justify behavior that their parents explicitly told them not to do, but if anything, the internet and other modern technology opens the door more than ever for music lovers. Take Therion. They're a Swedish shoegaze metal band I like. I never would have known of their existence if I didn't stumble upon them, and thats the beauty of the internet. We're able to integrate ourselves with music made in entirely different countries and see just how much rock is evolving. It only takes a minimal amount of effort. You really can't say rock and roll is dead without simultaneously saying you don't actually appreciate music and the ability of humans enough to try to disprove yourself.
