First-off, the game isn't out yet so we have no way of knowing how certain hardware will perform. It's safe to say a $300 build will not play it well at all, though. At that price point, I'll usually recommend you just stick with console.

Hmm well what would be the lowest budget for a machine able to play source games at max?

That's hard to say, but Source games don't take much. Which games were you thinking and how much do you actually want to spend?

Read the OP before posting.

You DO have a budget. Without one, you will not get a response because it's impossible to do a build without one. Be as specific as possible and make sure you include your currency. Use the abbreviations "USD," "GBP," "CAD," or "AUD." The symbols DO NOT always show up properly, which caused issues right off the bat. Ranges are fine and the use of "<" is as well, but this complicates things and we'll use the highest budget you provided. What you should put here is what you actually want to pay for your computer!

EDIT: you posted before regarding a build and Overclocker did it for you. It's your fault you're not taking this seriously and reading the OP. I'm not going to waste my time configuring another build that you're more than likely not going to purchase, sorry.
