I buy all music from Eminem, because he deserves every penny he gets!
Otherwise, everything's torrented, unless i think it's good enough to pay for.

Tygaa wroteThere's a lot of people out there that download music illegally; as I am one of them but there's a difference in what I do. What I do is, I download the music illegally to see what it is like, then if I like it, I go and buy it at the store or online. I do this because I don't want to waste my time and money if the mixtape/album is not worth buying or even listening to.
some say what I do is still not right because it is disrespect to the artist for no supporting them. I see it different. I could just not buy it at all and just download it illegally and have more money in my pocket but I'm not like that.
What do you guys do? I will not flame or judge you for what you do, I'm just curious to see if anyone is the same way. Also, do you support what I do or are you against it and tell me why you are if you don't agree.
I'm the same, I download an album to get a taste of what it's like then of I enjoy it I'll buy it.
I'm against people who illegally download all of their music, being in a growing band here in Scotland. People buy the album then rip it and upload it to TPB, and being an unsigned band I don't think people realise how much that affects us, as we have very little income to get into the studio and record new songs already never mind people pirating our music when we only charge 3 pounds for a 7 song EP...
Personally, I'm saving up to set up my own proper recording studio so that we won't have to rent one, as locally the rates are too steep for us to keep going in weekly working part time minimum wage jobs.

Honestly, if you really want to support an artist, you wouldn't buy a retail CD, nor would you download from iTunes. [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
If an artist you really like actually needs the money (e.g. not a super famous artist that's already made millions of dollars) you could donate yourself. Usually, those artists will have an account at Bandcamp, which is a fantastic resource for music in which artists actually make money.
I usually buy used CD's since they're incredibly cheap and I like having a physical copy in case my hard drives die. But the downside is that the artist makes no money from that, so if I really like the music and they aren't the most popular band, they get a donation.
I do understand the frustration of new bands who make no money because of TPB, but I also think it can be beneficial if they really are good. It's basically free advertising, as long as people eventually flock to buy the music. If not, then damn.
