When I was saying they are overpriced I was saying the parts inside the machines are overpriced but what you are mainly paying so much for in an Alienware is the name and the fancy lights, but if you buy a Mac you are buying the easy to use and more polished OS (Operating System) "OS X" and the Apple name.
If you are looking for a machine to write iOS applications on or you just want to use it because you think it is a better OS than Windows definitely get a Mac, but remember to consider the low specs some Macs have.
If you want to use a Laptop for gaming I would suggest doing some research on Google and looking around for a machine with a fast processor, good graphics card, and enough memory to suit your needs. DO NOT BUY AN ALIENWARE LAPTOP!
If you are just looking for a machine that has Windows as an OS and all you do is browse the internet and other things that aren't power intensive look for a low end Windows machine.
Finally, if a desktop is an option you should considering building one by yourself. It can save you a lot of money and you can get the components you want in a machine with a few exceptions. Building a machine is not hard it can be a little scary at first for some people but after you realize how easy it is it will not be a problem (Saying this from experience). If you would like to build a machine and can't find the right parts the people over at the Custom PC Topic can help you find parts you want that can fit your budget. Custom PC Topic
Also a "Good Laptop" can depend on a lot of things such as:
Your Budget
What its used for
What kind of specs you are looking for in a machine
Hope this helped,
