I would use the gnasher instead of the sawn-off, sawn-off requires no skill

I'd say the sawed-off is harder to do well with, which makes the gnasher its superior.
Because your range is so limited, you actually have to get up close, which can be a challenge, in and of itself. If someone goes 20-0 with a gnasher, it's "wow that guys good." If someone goes 20-0 with a sawed off, it's "how the hell did he do that."
The gnasher is a better gun, but the sawed-off is harder to do well with. (it's not harder to use, just harder to go positive)

Actually any experienced player can use the sawed off and do well with it.
