It depends if you are talking about a purpose given to us or a purpose we give to ourselves.
A comforting purpose we give to ourselves is not collective of humanity.
It only applies to our individual lives stating have a purpose.
A purpose given to us could be positive or it could be malevolent.
It all depends on whether you subscribe to the belief of a divine being.

If you do not then how can you say collective humanity has a purpose?

Maybe the purpose is to make a difference?

Like this..

Say you have a Star Running back on the team, And he got many game winning Touchdowns.

What if he wasn't there? What if he never existed?

Then that team would of lost all those games.

Thats sort of my seeing on it.

ExtremelyVolatile wrote I never really thought of that.

I'm thinking that we're here to live and enjoy life. And now that I think about it I am really wondering why. Why were we created, how were we created, etc.

I guess some things are better left unanswered.

Why would you not want the answers to those questions?
I would devote my life to finding the answer to even one of those questions.

Cougar wrote I have recently been thinking about what is our purpose in life. There has to be something behind the bases of why we exist to this day? Some people say it is just the way of nature, but I think there is something more to it, other than religion. We have, evolved so much, but why? Please keep this discussion free from a religious standpoint. (aka God created us all and wants us to live on end of story)

If we live life to the end what happens ? We die.

If we live life to the end, what have we done ? We have fulfilled it.

Our purpose on this planet is not anything else but to die.

If we are born, what is the purpose of being born.

So you ask, what is the purpose of death ?

The purpose of death is to show that you no longer live.

You have lived your life to the full. To the end.

The purpose is,

We are born to die.

If your wandering where that came from ::

I got bored one day, I kept thinking and thinking, I even dreamed about it.

And it finally clicked.

See for yourself !

I'm sure lots of people would disagree with you on that conclusion but there is a flaw in your argument.

If we have fulfilled life but life has no purpose, what have we fulfilled? Nothing.
Therefore if the purpose of death is taking life then it takes nothing, which renders it purposeless.

If death is purposeless then we must have a purpose in order for death to have a purpose.

Ahh well you see, you have kind of confused me but hear me out...

The purpose is the emptiness leading up to death...

Death is the true purpose of life...

If death is not achieved then there is another purpose....

Use a phone for a example...

Its purpose is to text, sms, phone people right ?

What happens if it breaks ? The purpose cannot be met...

Wait now i see what you mean, i dont know its really confusing me now...
