Obviously, my country, The United States of America isn't a Utopian society, but here are my thoughts about Gay Marriage.

It should not have anything to do with the government. Marriage should stay within the church and if you want your relationship to be recognized by the government for legal purposes then that should be called a civil union (I'm saying for EVERYONE...gay or straight). Also, the benefits of a civil union would be equivalent to those of what we now call marriage. Meaning, you could have a union and no marriage (homosexuals and atheists and people who don't feel that they need any sort of church to affirm their union), a marriage and no union (you are spiritually joined to your significant other but are not reaping any of the benefits that a union would afford you), or you could have both (you feel strongly enough about having the label of marriage within your religion that you would go that route and you are smart enough to want the benefits of a union).

I don't care for the label of marriage. You
can keep your word, it means nothing to me. Having those benefits does however. A General Accounting Office report in 1997 identified 1,049 laws where federal benefits, rights or privileges were contingent on marital status. They include tax breaks, pensions and Social Security benefits, inheritance rights and loans. Being gay may not be ok in the eyes of your church organization and I'm fine with that, I have no qualms with you being so interested in who lays in my bed at night and then disapproving of it. I do have qualms however with the idea that should my significant other be hospitalized there's a huge possibility (contingent on our union status in this non-utopian system and even then on what state we're in) that I will have no say on what happens to her and no rights as to knowing what is going on. Some of you probably think that's "what I get" for going against God's law and so on and so forth and that's fine...here in America we all get this beautiful privilege to say whatever we want for the most part (yelling fire in a crowded room when there is no danger present will get criminal charges thrown against you so don't be ridiculous) but I want to know where in the Constitution it says our country is run by the bible. Furthermore, I direct you to the Treaty of Tripoli ( [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] ) and I would like for you to read Art. 11 (it states that we are not a Christian nation for those of you who choose not to check my facts.) If your Christian values are directing you to believe that just because someone loves someone of the same-sex as you then you are so much of a lesser individual that in my most desperate hour you don't deserve to be there as my loved one lays dying as you hope at some point you will read the parts of the Bible about compassion and loving thy neighbor.

I made this because my sister is a Lesbian, was in a Civil Union before, and wants to have one again, but she wants it to be marriage.

Thank you for reading, discuss if you'd like.

Yeah I don't really care if two dudes or chicks want to get married. Just do your own thing, it's cool.

We don't have Gay Marriage to cater to Christians, and we shouldn't have to do that. We're a free country...
