I don't know if you can get rid of it in the settings, but i think you can change the resolution.
When i record, i also have back bars at the sides, but they go away when i save it to my comp.

That's because you're not using a 16:9 aspect ratio input, such as the HD settings. If you have editing software, such as Sony Vegas or After Effects, you can remove those black bars. In After Effects, try pressting Ctrl+Alt+F on the layer that has your video, or just drag the video in the comp window outwards until the black lines are gone; in Vegas, go to the video Pan/Crop menu, and select this:

You're in 480p. Not 720p go to your dashboard and change your video settings. Unless you're using AV cables on the front of the PVR (Yellow White and Red) if you're using component cables (which you should be) I recommend you go to HD.

Fix your resolution setting to what ever fits your tv.
