Ive got Arma II but not the other one.

im wondering if there is actually a way to play DayZ without the other game because i dont want to waste more money just to play the mod because i wouldnt play the game just the mod?

no there isnt a way. And its not a waiste of money its worth every cent

The dlc is like 10$, and yes its worth it.
