This last march i downloaded steam and bought modern warfare 2. It worked fine but after a while i got rid of it because i stopped playing it as much as i did before and just earlier i download it again but its not opening i get preparing to launch game then i see the mw2 background then it stops loading and goes away. Then when i start it from the desktop shortcut it will do the same but will give me a error saying "Steam Must Be Running To Play This Game" when it is open and running. If anyone can get this to work again like it did before i would be happy to +Rep!!!!!

Are you closing out steam with the desktop icon?

No it just gives me the error when steam is running

1. Log out of Steam
2. Delete Steam and mw2
3. Reinstall Steam
4. Reinstall mw2
5. play. It should work after that

Go into the folder where you installed Steam (Like C:/Program Files/Steam or C:/Program Files/Valve/Steam) and delete the file called ClientRegistry.blob, then restart Steam and try again. You may have to log in again as the saved username/password will be forgotten

luanch steam as admin and verify game cache for mw2
