Should I get Intel or AMD? I am going to be building a gaming PC.

Intel is more expensive price wise, but I go with AMD.

See the CPU hierarchy chart here [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] .
It all depends on your budget and what you'll be using it for. Just for gaming I'd go with an i5-2500k as it is the best value for price CPU and is all you need for modern games paired with a good graphics card. Unless your budget is -$600 I wouldn't go with an AMD. If your budget is below 600 USD, I would get the AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition as it is pretty much the most popular AMD CPU and is really good for the price.

I've heard Intel is better for gaming but also the same about AMD? My budget will probably be around $800-$900 I think I will go with Intel but I'm still not sure. Any help is appreciated.

Intel has better graphics and processing units, but price wise you should go with AMD, even though they are a terrible processing unit

One CPU does not simply last longer than the other.
