So I have been searching high and low on google and found some tutorials and people helping each other with this, but I am still a bit confused. So I bought a 250gb official xbox 360 harddrive for my xbox and was wondering how I can transfer everything from my old harddrive to my new one. I know about ftp but am a little confused on the entire process. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Well you could pick up a transfer kit and plug that into your old harddrive, and plug it into your new jtag (via usb) and transfer it that way.

I'm guessing your old harddrive is smaller than 250 gigs, you could also use the FTP thats built in Freestyle dash, and copy the contents of your old HDD to your computer, then transfer them to your new harddrive, either way will take some time.

Thanks. I would give rep but sadly I have none to give, but I did rate your post as helpful if that helps anything. I actually do have a transfer kit but i was just thinking about ftping because i was wondering if I should just return the transfer kit. And when I put the 250 gb harddrive into my console, how would i ftp into it since neither xexmenu/nor freestyledash are installed on it?

Using your old smaller HDD with xex menu and freestyle already on it, you use the FTP (thats built in FSD) to copy your files onto your computer, this is probably the best way.

I bought the transfer kit as well, and never used it, never really worked for me, yeah a waste of 20 bucks, but think of the $$$ we save on not buying games. They say you put your new harddrive in your xbox, and plug the transfer kit into your usb on your xbox, and the other end to your old harddrive, and it transfer it all in the dashboard settings, I tried this and it didn't work for me, I think it's meant for retail games and files, not any jtag files, but I could be wrong, it just never worked for me to say it transferred successfully.

So in your case, I'd recommend turning on your jtag, boot up freestyle dash, then using your computer, you should be able to see your xbox HDD in your network, I then copied my entire xbox HDD to my computer (depending how big your original harddrive is, it could take hours to transfer the files just a warning).

I've loaded a couple dozen jtags/rgh's at this point, so I have stuff like xex menu and freestyle dash on a USB stick, so should you. So now that you have a copy of your old harddrive on your computer, power down your jtag, put the new HDD in, turn it on, and insert the USB stick with xex menu and freestyle dash, then copy xex menu and freestyle to your harddrive.

Now you can FTP again with freestyle now installed on your new HDD, at this point I'd use content manager 2.2 on your computer and load the games you want, one by one from your copied xbox HDD you have on your computer. But if you wanna just copy them all at once, you can do it via FTP on your computer, just make sure your xbox doesn't turn off, turn the auto off, off. Again it will take hours if you have, for example 120 gigs of stuff your wanting to transfer to your new harddrive.

I hope this helps, let me know if have any problems.

EDIT: so when I tried to move over freestyle dash i got operation failed error. I've tried copying it over using freestyle dash and xexmenu. Any help?
