Not sure how many have heard about this but Gary Bettman, commissioner of the NHL, has "no intention" of playing the 2012-13 season under the current collective bargaining agreement. This was said after the NHL and NHL Players Association met for less than two hours in New York on Thursday.
The CBA expires Sept. 15. The start of the regular season is scheduled for Oct. 11.
If no agreement is made we could be looking at another lockout.
Also, NHLPA Executive Director Donald Fehr said of the owners' current proposal. "It seems to us that, overall and on a club-by-club basis, all of the revenue-sharing payments -- both the new ones and the existing ones -- would be paid for by player salary reductions."
In my opinion the NHL is getting way to greedy and is forgetting the one key concept that brings in all the revenue... Everyone's love for the game. If another lockout happens they are only loosing money and putting their reputation further down the drain. They need to stop being so greedy and let the hockey clubs and players have the money they deserve.

If only they'd move teams like PHX, NYI and FLA to better destinations like Quebec City and Markham so they can actually garner some profit. Bettman and the Owners are solely to blame.

Bettmans a tool. It's because the team owners are getting to greedy and don't want to pay what the players deserve. Some contracts are just a joke though. Like DiPietro wanting a 15 year deal. (SERIOUSLY! THE ISLANDERS SUCK!) But I doubt there will be a lockout. (Don't quote me on that) But some of the low profit teams need to be relocated. All we can do is hope that they don't lock the players out, otherwise I might have to move to Russia...

Missing the 2012-2013 season would be a stupid move by the commissioner. Players age yearly so a player is losing a year out of his playing career and not making money either not that they need to make more lol.
But the draft would be screwed over too cause there's no records to judge from. It's not gonna be accurate.
But whatever the commissioner is gonna say, I don't think there's gonna be a lockout. Too much nonsense would occur.

Obviously it would be a stupid idea to lock out the players but I have no doubt that it will happen. The owners want a lockout and Bettman will grant them that wish.
For the draft situation see 2005 NHL Entry Draft and the format they used to determine the lottery winner - they'd initiate that or something similar.
In the likely event there is a lockout though I'll probably follow Chicago Wolves in the AHL or SKA St.Petersburg in the KHL. Not the best competition and I hope it doesn't have to come to that.
