Hey guys let me start off by saying I think I know what overclocking is. Coorect me if I am wrong but isn't it when you change your PC's settings to run faster than your processor? But besides that is it necessary. I am looking for part to build a PC and I keep seeing that parts support Overclocking. I will mainly use it for gaming and maybe some video editing/rendering. I am getting an Intel i5 3570k processor and a nVidia GeForce 670 2gb EVGA FTW edition. Please let me know exactly what it is if I am wrong and if it necessary with what I am getting.

In your post I couldn't help but notice that you're getting the i5 3570k which is the unlocked version which supports overclocking so don't get the "K" version if you don't plan on overclocking to save yourself some money.
Now onto overclocking, it's when you run a component (in your case it would be your processor) at a higher clock rate than it's factory settings.
EX: I have an Intel Core i5 2500k running @3.3ghz (this is the stock speed)
After I've overclocked it, it is now an Intel Core i5 2500k running @ 4.5ghz (the results of the overclock)
Hope I helped! If you still need help on overclocking or are still unclear on what it means, shoot me a pm!

Overclocking is where you go into the bios and bascially your telling the pc's maximum running speed of the processer that its higher.

Overclocking is pushing past the core clock of your processor and no its not neccesory if your just going on the internet but for PC gaming I think so

Means you can run such games at a higher level ect. but it comes with its disadvantages also.
Like -PancakeMix- i also have an i5 2500k, I have tried a 4.5Ghz overclock it worked great BUT it gets REALLY hot. if you dont have a suitable 3rd party CPU fan it will fry your CPU. I am now running at stable 3.7Ghz compared to the 3.3Ghz stock speed. If your new with computers I wouldn't recommend overclocking, especially with the CPU and GPU you say you are getting which wont require an overclock and will run games great on stock speed.
