I don't know if it's really a manipulation but it's something special. I saw the stock image of a girl and design almost exactly like this so I went for it. 4 Hours total. Any feedback?

Very nice bro...

What technique did you use to remove the background from around the models hair off the original stock?

It's a really smooth job.

I would change the levels and channels to make the girl mostly blacked out then used an inverse selection to outline the outwanted background then created a vector mask. Everything blacked out including the girl was still there in the end. Kind of complicated to explain but it really simple to use once you get the hang of it.
