I have looked into this and 99% of commercial laptops do carry hdmi output but they do not carry an hdmi input. So the hdmi port will only transfer outgoing signals and it won't receive incoming signals. There are some things you can buy to make it so your VGA output can also receive signals but I believe you just want to plug it in and go and that is not possible as is.
