well if your totally into this i would get the astros because if you dont have programs to edit with then your vids will look like crap my opinion. astros all the wat baby!!

At the end of the day will having 1000 subscribers on youtube and a better kill death ratio on call of duty make you any better off? improve his grades and his social life? improve his well being as a person?

This is not exactly what will help him. What will help him is something that he can use in real life. Something to get him more sucked into xbox360 gaming will not.

Get an HD PVR, Astro's aren't needed.

I would say A50's because they are amazing.

if you go for the hdpvr, dont go for a elgatoHD

Out of those two I would go with the astros.
There are too many people who think "Let's get some clips, stick them on YouTube and get partnership bla bla..." In reality.. that's not going to happen, it will just be the odd person watching your videos so in my opinion a hauppauge is a waste of money.
The astros are an ok headset, fairly comfortable but they aren't great.

If I were you I'd buy something else, for me it would be a new gaming mouse. (Still stuck on default mouse)

You should also buy a pack of skittles
