Peripherals & Monitor: Already have them.

Games: Nope

Software: Already have what she needs

Aesthetics: Doesn't really matter, just nothing flashy.

Rebates/Promos: Yes, one price without rebates, one with rebates

Details: My mom is looking for a new computer. She saw a dell I3 laptop on QVC (A shopping channel for those who don't know.) It was about 600 bucks. I told her it's cheaper to build one, and chances are it will be better to. So if anybody can help out, I will love you forever. My mom does medical transcriptions so the main programs she uses are MS Word, and Chrome. I want to her to be able to get the most for her money, but she doesn't need a video card or stuff like that. She just needs it to be good for word processing and browsing the web. Mainly something quick that will be good at multi-tasking. Thanks.

When: Will give her a day or two to think about it before ordering.
Thanks!

I don't do laptops on here anymore, but eh. This is easy!

~$600 will get you a T430 at the low end. Matte display, unbeatable build quality, battery life, durability, cooling, longevity, upgrade-ability, repair-ability, and input. Very hard to recommend anything else! The extra $50 for the 1600 x 900 panel is worth it and only increases the price by $40, it seems.

Sorry if I didn't explain myself, we were looking for a desktop build. If you could do another, no rush, I would be very grateful. (Right word?) She already has an old dell laptop that's kinda crapping out. Any help is appreciated.

I can't/won't do a build for you a month in advance. It's best for you, too. Make sure you have money sorted out before posting and for the love of Celestia stop making posts that are not requests in this topic.

In my opinion and from my experience, a laptop would be better for her. If it's not for gaming and it's not a workstation, I always recommend laptops. You'll need a keyboard, mouse, monitor, and probably a legit copy of Windows. That screws things up to the point that a laptop is a far better choice. A laptop comes with that all installed and it's actually portable. A T430 is everything a cheap trash Dell is not. You want what you want, though.

You should be able to play BF3 on high at 1080p at very playable framerates. Overclock it and you'll do even better, and this card has great cooling so you should be able to get a lot of extra performance out of it.

Honestly I'm amazed at how good this is. That's freaking insane for $450. Dang...
