It should work Did you check the Motherboard and see if it fully supports it and all the functions ?
The PSU is enough for this upgrade but i wouldent invest to much money into the current system since soon the processor (unless OC) will be a bottleneck

But to sum it up it should/will work

I've been told that bottlenecks with an i5 processor are rare? and wouldnt the PSU not work because of the fact that the fan is facing downwards and my current one faces towards the back end of my pc? And what of the graphics card? will it positively work and fit? will both of them fit in my case?

The 7870 starts to get bottlenecked at the G620, you will be fine.

Does the case have a PSU cutout in the back so the fan can push it out ? If not just have the PSU upside down and have the fan blow the air into the case. Its not a problem if you have good airflow and the "extra" heat wont matter one bit. Weather the Graphics Card fits, is really your thing to figure out. Im guessing you have a normal sized tower and since the GPU isent bigger than usul it should all fit. Just messure it out. You are correct bottlenecks on i5 are hard but with today's games etc its not that hard anymore. Invest in a good aftermarket cooler and crank that bad boy up to 4+ Ghz

Wait, so now my cooler/fan is insufficient?
