Hey guys,

Recently my laptops HDD broke due to it falling off a computer stand. I now have a new HDD in my laptop and I was wondering if there was a way I can transfer the files from my broken HDD to my new HDD?

I am offering some rep to whoever answers the best. Thanks in advance!

I completely misread this sorry. You need to either bring it in or get a special cable

you would probably have to get a cord that fits that hdd. and make sure that it has a usb to where you can plug it to your computer. then transfer the files like that.

It depends on how severe the damage is. If the drive won't spin up anymore, there's probably no way to retrieve the data on it. This appears to be a tough concept. Guys, he said the HDD broke, he's not asking how to plug it into his laptop.

If the platters are broken or shattered, no chance. Sorry, it looks like you lost your stuff. But, I'm no licensed technician. Try calling a local computer shop and asking them, because I'm not 100% sure, I'm floating around 98%.
Just curious, did you buy an SSD? Those things can withstand quite a drop!

Buy some Sata/IDE cables from Amazon once you get them plug it into your HDD, and plug the other side into your laptop and your files will pop up like USB and you can transfer them to your laptop. I had the same problem, but I did not drop mine just got a new laptop

It really depends on HOW broke, if you were to open it you could potentially swap out the discs in the new one and the old one and be good to go. If the actual disc is damaged then it's probably pretty screwed and would need to be taken to a special facility.
