Let me start by saying this. I know that this might be off the topic of what the forum is based upon but I couldn't find to much help or answers on what do anywhere else, so I thought I might as well try here.

Today I just drove a hour and a half to go pick up a 6 week old up black lab puppy that me and my mother have been looking at for the past couple of days not knowing how critical the 8-12 week rule was. I talked to the breeder and pleaded my case and consists on not taking the puppy back or giving a refund.

Puppies this young have uncontrollable bladder so it is impossible to potty train along with have anxiety issues from being weened from the mother way to early. I read online that if a puppy is weened to early that it will have problems as it grows older.

So what do I do?

Go to a website that knows about dogs, that's what you do.

Just see what happens, there is only a small chance of problems when it gets older.

I got my puppy when she was 6 weeks old. She was potty trained quickly and has no health issues. I got her from a great breeder and I doubt he would of let her go if he felt the dog was not ready.

I completely agree with Lite. He would not have gave you the puppy if it was not ready. You are just going to have to wait and see what happens and go from there. Good Luck!

I didn't get my pup at 6 weeks, he was 7 weeks (just a day over or so). He does not have problems with going to the potty, except sometimes he gets overexcited and... golden showers..

But he's a great dog; no health problems. Brought him to the vet a week ago for a checkup, he's fine

What Lite said is true in the case that it was a professional breeder. If anything be very gentle and don't do anything to harm or traumatize it.It should be fine as long as it is cared for and fed.As for the potty issue you raise it in a box and take it potty outside so that it knows not to potty in the house.Dogs dont potty where they live so thats the concept of the box.
