I am not responsible if you brick your console - I am just a person from the internet. You take full responsibility trying to update your dashboard.
Use either xexmemu or fsd (which ever file manager you are most comfortable with. You will need to find a program called Flash360. Launch the default.xex The application should detect that your motherboard is a xenon with a 16MB nand. READ THE SCREEN CAREFULLY! Press the X button to backup your current nand file. Press A button to save entire nand to file. Press any button to continue. Press Back < button to return to menu. Press Back < button again to exit. Return to the Flash360 folder. Now you should have the default.xex as well as a flashdmp.bin file. The bin file is the backup of your nand.
Ftp or copy to thumb drive to use on your computer.
I like to use xeBuild 2.0- it is very user friendly. The source file is your flashdmp.bin. The output will be your updated dashboard image. It will be saved as updflash.bin - I prefer to flash the updated image using flash360 as well. FTP or file tansfer the updflash.bin to the Flash360 folder. You should have the default.xex as well as the updflash.bin here. This time press A to write updflash.bin to Nand. READ ALL SCREENS CAREFULLY. When complete, your console will shutdown. When it does - YOU MUST UNPLUG THE POWER SUPPLY FROM THE CONSOLE FOR ABOUT 1 MINUTE. When you boot back up, you will be on the new dash If you feel adventurous, xeBuild2.0 can also download the Avatar update files so your person doesn't look like a gray shadow. Best of luck.
Check around for more tutorials. Make sure you are comfortable with what you are doing. If things go badly you will need an spi flaser hardwired to your board to fix. SAVE YOUR NAND BACKUP!!!!!
