Jailbreaking your phone is legal in the United States by the DMCA. Other countries I can't answer for.

After you jailbreak can lead you to other things that are in fact illegal.

Jailbreaking is legal it just depends what you use it for makes it have a bad name

If you jailbreak to download free apps then it's illegal.
But At The Moment the actual jailbreak is perfectly lawful, although apple are trying criminalise it.

He is 100% correct, Jailbreaking your device is legal but voids your warranty. The only way to make it illegal is to download free apps and music.

jailbreaking is 100% legal until you commit some type of copyright infringement (possesing something that should normally be paid for without paying for it)
Some think that that is the only purpose to jailbreaking an ipod/iphone. I use it more for developer purposes and like the fact that everything is open source like the Android's Play Store is. Hope this helps!

if you jailbreak an IPHONE it is illegal but if you jailbreak and IPOD it is not illegal.
