If I plugged my HDMI cable into my dads laptop will it show my xbox on the laptop?

no the laptop hdmi port is output only
like for a projector

If it is an INPUT then yes. But if it's an output then no.

Not necessarily. Some high end laptops have both output and inputs. But I doubt his does. It's likely an output.
