3960X? A bit impractical if you ask me.

Haha, wow. 3960X isn't worth it, 3930k yields the same performance in my opinion for almost half price. But going 2011 isn't bad as there will be the Ivy Bridge-E chips somewhere in '13. You should go for a decent overclock on the H80.

I would've liked to have seen a non-reference 7970 over a squirrel cage, but meh.

Your parents randomly decided to buy you a new computer with a $1,000 CPU in it even though you probably won't even use a quarter of its potential? Huh. If I had a lot of money like that I guess that it'd be a possibility as well. Still, sub par cable management, 3 different SSD's for no reason, and an ( overpriced, not like it matters because you blew that barrier away with a 3960x ) Corsair H80.

You should've went with a dual gpu with crossfire or sli
Instead of the ridiculously priced CPU.

Assuming he has a high resolution panel to push to 7970's, sure.

2 x 7970's pushing 1920 x 1080 is nothing and a complete waste.
