I'm looking to build a PC for myself, already got a laptop but I'm in need for something faster etc. I can only spend at the most 300 GBP. I'm a student so it's as much as I can get hold of at the moment haha. I use 3DS MAX a lot and also Photoshop, I also use those in conjunction with things like Visual Studio, so I need to be able to use multiple heavy programs adequately at the same time, currently killing my laptop. Would be nice I guess to use it for some gaming, but I'm not too focused on that.
Currently thinking with going with an Intel chip rather than AMD, due to they seem to be the best for what I'm looking for at the moment I think? Would I be right to say all the Ivy Bridge chips now support hyper threading? Which is what I think would be useful to me?

Due to your budget I would recommend a AMD CPU over a intel as they are a bit cheaper, my sandybridge i5 2500k still costs 120-150 so that will be half of your budget blown just on the CPU and you could lose more if you pick one of the higher end ivybridge ones.
As for ivy bridge supporting hyper threading the i5 range do not and if i remember correctly only some models of the 17 range do.
