Unfortunately I've never seen anyone on TTG show any knowledge of DSLRs. If they have it, they don't show it. Don't count on a good answer from here.

With 720 bucks I would personally get a used T3i/T2i.

The body is not important really, the lens is what produces the quality that you will be looking for.

I prefer Canon, but a Nikon is a fine choice as well, just know that Canon is years ahead of Nikon in terms of video quality.

The T3i/T2i are fine cameras and I would definitely go for a Canon as well (have one myself), but I don't fully agree with that the body "isn't really important". I agree that the lens is more important than the body, but the body is still important (sensor quality, magnification, focus, image processing power, etc). There are differences and some do affect the outcome of your pictures. It's just a matter of opinion on whether or not you think it is worth the extra money.

Focus and magnification have nothing to do with the body.

I can make better photos with a Rebel XT and a 135mm F/2 L than I could with a 1D X and a Sigma kit zoom.
