I don't usually post topics that look to the future, but I had a thought about turning on the TV and watching the Presidential election for the President of Earth.

Three questions came to mind:

1) Would there NEED to be aliens on the scene for this person to even exist?

2) How long would it be until this person was needed?

3) Would humanity be able to stop its squabbles and work together under one President?

Personally, I think aliens would need to be on the scene, it seems wrong having a leader of a planet without any other planets with intelligent life.
Like having a teacher in a Nursery with no children [First analogy that came to mind, could make no sense at all].

I think that it will be a few hundred years at least until we would ever need someone in a position like this or be able to. I think it would take that amount of time for relationships between countries to heal enough for it to even be possible.

Lastly, I don't think we could ever put 1 person in charge of the entire planet.
I find it a stretch to see there even being a publicly known Government for the entire planet.
I can only see people deciding what is best for the planet through plebiscites but even then that is a flawed method of decision making [Just look at Austria during WW2]

I'm pretty undecided on this topic, and it was just a quick thought.

This might end up starting a nationality war for some bizarre reason but I urge people not to argue considering what happened to the UK vs US topic.

What do you think?

I don't believe there could be a President of Earth anytime soon because of all the differences, the only possibility of there being one is by taking countries by force, which is a near impossible task.

I agree with aliens having to be in the scene. Without other planets or other species to deal with there is no need for one ruler. Also, aliens would be the one thing that may cause all races and counties to make peace and focus on one common goal.

Neat thought. Now I don't know a whole lot about history or Austria in WW2, but here's my answer :

1) Personally, I don't really think we'd need aliens to watch over us. I think if we settled our differences and finally decided to live together as a planet and not separate nations, then we wouldn't need aliens, though we would need several branches to keep each other in line. ( Like in the US with the 3 branches, I know it's not perfect, but its the best attempt that I know of to keep each branch from gaining too much power and making it a dictatorship. ) However, I doubt the whole idea of a world government, because it seems like it would be too big and hard to control, or it would have a hard time controlling the people ( as in, enforcing laws ), and if that government were ever to collapse, then we'd be left in anarchy. I kinda got off topic from the alien side of it, but I'll answer the next question. lol.

2) I kinda answered this in the previous question. I think we as human beings, would have to accept that we are all equal and decide what's best for us as a species, not what is just good for one type of people or a small group(s) but what would benefit us as a species. Would one world government? I don't know.

3) Well this goes back to putting differences aside and realizing that we are all equal. I believe that us humans are born good ( there is research to back this up ) and we want to help each other and ourselves reach higher goals, so I think it's possible, but it is a far stretch considering where we are at today, with all the wars and conflicts between people.

I'm with you, and I'm not sure if we could ever have a single leader in charge of the whole world government without someone checking on them. I feel like if we didn't then we would have tyranny.

When I think one world governments, I always think Science Fiction when we start colonizing other planets and meet other civilizations which aren't recognized by nations but planets. I do think that if one day we are to colonize space, that we cannot do it split up like we are, it would be pointless to have the United States find the first Earth like planets and claim it for the USA then Russia does the exact same thing. It would be a waste of money and resources for 2 different nations to do that when if they combined money, resources, and research, they might get something bigger and better done.

Only time will tell.

Very well put

From my understanding and vague memory of high school history, Hitler bullied the Austrian leader into opening a plebiscite in Austria to see if they wanted Hitler in control.
The majority voted yes [something like 90%] but people insist that the votes were forced and people were bullied into voting for Hitler.
However, if they weren't it shows how, without any foresight, the Public can't be trusted to make the right decisions [from my point of view]
Of course this is quite biased because we have hindsight and can see the effects of that decision, but the point still stands.

The public can't make decisions that affect an entire nation or in this case, planet.

That might be true, which I could see as being a big problem in a one world government.

Finally, a non illuminati topic.
I don't think we will any time soon. Making a global government would help solve economic problems though. As long as we can visit one planet, people are going to want there share, and when we find different planets, maybe each planet will be like a country or nation.

You're talking about nWo-New world order. Its horrible and not good at all look it up. The world with separate leaders and countries is better. Why have it like the nazi's wanted it.

I know this isn't exactly an Illuminati/NWO topic, but that's basically what this would be leading upto it. This will have to be a one world government, which the events leading up will most likely be very controversial. This will need to be in place if expect to survive in the long run, but it will be difficult to get there.

I think there'll come a time when the world is left in such a state that it's going to need to some sort of leader figure. Alas, I don't think with the current climate of the world (no I don't mean weather) it's going to happen in our lifetime.

The only three scenario's I can think we'll need a world leader is either: intelligent life coming in contant and/or waging some sort of intergalactic war against us, a cataclysmic event such as a meteor striking or a huge solar flare or a World War.

To me, the most realistic one would be a World War, and because a World War is inevitable and it'll be so much more catastrophic, whichever side comes out victorious will elect a President of Earth.

Anyway, that's just my opinion. ;D
