You get 100 Reputation points for 1 Reputation Power. You also get 1 Reputation Power every 25 posts. You can only receive what number reputation the gifters Reputation Power is.

At the bottom of your profile, where your friends list is. There will be a tab saying, 'Reputation'. Click this and you will see that I have given you the maximum amount I can give.

Rep works as follows.

Reputation power is the amount you can give. If you are gold you can give 50 (if you have that much rep power) and if you are a free member you can give 25 (if you have it). You need to be given 100 rep points in order to earn one rep power. Alternatively, you can post 25 times and earn yourself one rep power. If someone gives you 15, you still need a further 85 points to earn just one rep power, so getting to high numbers of rep takes a LONG time.
