i bought an ipod touch 2g off ebay and its saying on i itunes i have the highest update 4.2.1 but this isnt the highest update because my friends have the same ipod and have a higher update so how can i have the newest update

Maybe your iPod Touch isn't a 2G?

4.2.1 Is the highest Firmware that is able to be put on a second generation iPod touch.

If your friends have a higher firmware than you, then they have a higher generation iPod than you.

It's not possible for the iPod Touch 2G to support higher firmwares because the hardware isn't designed to take any higher firmware with features that the hardware can't support.

Tl;Dr: Your friends have a higher generation iPod Touch.
