it doesent scratch the disk all the time uncertainity cuz one time when i didnt pay attetion by the way i got mw3 xbox but i layed it on its side without in the space yea it made a horrible sound but it didnt scratch idk how not :0

the ring is from the disk wobbling when it is spinning and hitting the top and bottom of the disk drive, so it isnt on it isnt going to create a ring, only minor scratches if anything at all.
