So I just bought this: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] As I really needed a new GFX Card. Anyways, after I paid, I realized oh sh*t, this is a PCIe 3.0 card... I did some googling though, and I came up with the fact that it will still work, but performance might be decreased. I just wanted to know if it would be worth spending like another $200 on a new motherboard so that I can get full use out of the card. Just let me know if so.

I mean do you want more for your graphic card? Would you be willing to spend 100 to 150 or less?

I already bought the card. Basically, using a PCIe 3.0 card in a 2.0 slot decreases the performance. I didn't notice when ordering, but it doesn't matter. Now I just want to know if the performance would be that much better with a 3.0 slot to buy a new motherboard.

Okay so I did research and found this [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] Note:
To run the PCI Express 3.0 slots in Gen 3 speed, please must install the Ivy Bridge CPU which supports PCI Express 3.0. If you install the Sandy Bridge CPU, the PCI Express 3.0 slots will run only at Gen2 speed. So you would need a ivy bridge processor or there is no point in the motherboard

I also bought that card recently. But yes, the performance is decreased but slightly. If you want to squeeze every bit of performance, I would upgrade your mobo. And btw, you don't need to shell out $200 bucks. This is the one I use, it depends on your cpu if you should get it though.

The performance decrease from using it in a 2.0 slot is very very minimal as the bandwith isn't even used with today's games anyway. You should not worry as you will be getting pretty much the same performance.
