Hmm like how they drawn all of the planets in our solar system with their correct sizes before we even had telescopes or any sort of device like that.

9/11
Adolf Hitler
WW1 and WW2
Mahatma Gandhi
Napoleon
Stalin
Assassination of John F. Kennedy
Nostradamus also predicted a lot of things which then came true.
However, he also predicted that a large comet would strike Earth in around 2003.
He was wrong.
Simply because someone managed to predict a certain number of things does not mean that all of their predictions, including ones to be proven or dis-proven, are automatically correct.

Why does everyone care what the Mayans think. Yes their calendar ends on that day, but we are talking about a prehistoric civilization that sacrificed babies to make it RAIN. Why should we follow any of their ideas if they are crazy enough to think sacrificing a baby could effect the weather?
Edit: Another thing, if the Mayans could predict the future, why are they all dead now?

The Mayans are all dead? 6 million people killed in one night?
No, the Mayan population today is higher than it was when they were using the Calender.
Plus, the Mayans did not make the Calender, it had been in use in Pre-Columbia Mesoamerica since the 5th Century BCE.
The Mayans just 'improved' it according to their beliefs.
Of course the sacrifice of children seems silly and horrific to us now, but the Mayans;
1) Didn't believe death was a end, but instead, a beginning.
2) Had a very deep and complex culture.
They would remove the hearts of their sacrifices so that the deceased person would ascend to higher being automatically rather than through belief and conviction.
The price of this was obviously their life.
However, how can a 1-2 year old baby make this decision? they couldn't but one of their Gods demanded young sacrifices.
So, to overcome the decision making involved, the Mayans would use children with birth defects.
You cannot judge a civilization that was completely cut off, living in an uncivilized, barbaric and brutal world, especially if you don't understand how deeply rooted religion was in their society.

Will anybody today be able to do that?

If that did happen then it wouldn't really matter?
1. Nothing physical would actually happen.
2. The day may get darker.
