Budget: $90

Music preferences: Pretty much everything from Hardstyle and House to Pop and Rock

Type/form-factor: Over-ear

Open or closed: closed

Listening from: iPhone or laptop sometimes.

I'm in public transport and airplanes a lot, so I would like something that keeps out the sound of crying babies and it has to be portable.

If you can get another $15, this is probably the best choice: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Music preferences: Mostly rock/"screamo", although I do listen to rap on occasion.

Type/form-factor: Over ear, preferably.

Open or closed: Either. I don't like sound leakage though, so I'm partial to closed.

Listening from: My iPhone and my laptop.

Details:

Do you want them to be portable? Why not.
Do they need to isolate well? Yes, very well. This is one of my major needs.
Is durability a big priority? Yes
Are these for gaming? If so, please specify PC or console. No
Do you have any hardware like amps or DACs that you will be using? No
Do you need an amp and/or DAC? No
Have you had significant experience with certain headphones in the past? Not really, I have Beats on my ears right now. They are practically fallen apart too.
Do you have any other relevant questions? Nope, I just want nice quality headphones for Christmas.

And I just bought a Beyerdynamic T50P and Sennheiser PXC450 for $109. Pretty excited. It wasn't the Q701 I was aiming to buy, but I just got accepted into college (Boston University!) and should probably use my money in more sensible ways.

I wouldn't go for the AiAiAi, but the K550 would be a pretty good choice. The K267 looks to be a very interesting choice as well, but I haven't tried that.

Someone introduced Denon D400 to me too. Why wouldn't you choose AiAiAi?

They're too dark for indie and too slow for metal. I know nothing about the D400 other than that a lot of people are disappointed with them.

Well, I'm from Holland, so getting it from the states to me would take even more money. And I would rather have a new one, instead of a refurbished one. Any other suggestions maybe?

I'd say look at the Koss DJ100 or Philips Citiscape Uptown. Otherwise, have you considered an IEM instead? It seems like one would fit your needs much better.

A few letters. Don't get either.

@Ishcabible: Congrats! Guess you weren't as lazy as I am, I'm about to finish and send all my apps. I'm applying to some engineering schools in the east and a few others.

Nice! Which ones? And the only reason I wasn't lazy was because the early decision deadline was really early and early decision was the only way I'd get in.

The PXC450 was an impulse buy and the more I read about them, the less I'm assuming I'll like them. Well...maybe someone would trade a pair of Grados for them.

Clarkson, Drexel, Olin, and Rennselaer for now and I'll probably do more. Also Rose-Hulman and University of KY (dat in-state tuition with KEES money, first choice realistically).

Never even heard of the PXC450... Did you... Pay retail?

Hey I need advice on which earphones to get again.

I have brought my options down to 4 earphones, but if you can suggest another in the same $60 dollar price range that would be great.
