tbyeah wrote What you say is true, but consider this: say a physically weak man was a complete academic genius. If he was to attempt to survive on his own, he would likely fail. He requires support, but he is still astonishingly intelligent. Your point is half valid, but it only stands when talking about people who are completely rounded. People differ though. They are intelligent in different aspects to each other.

That is irrelevant.

If that man was born 5000 years ago then his upbringing would force him to be physically strong.

I take your point though about different aspects of intelligence, this is true.

What about a disability then? A debilitating illness? 5000 years ago, people wouldn't have a full understanding of them. Frailty isn't the only possible reason for struggling to survive.

I believe that most people in this world today could't do some of the stuff that we did even 100 years ago, so yes I agree completely.

Darwin's Law is certainly becoming obsolete as we progress.

We are so privileged that even the dumbest cretin can thrive and become successful, or live comfortably for the rest of their lives. Basically technology rendered the idea of "Survival of the Fittest" moot, in my opinion.

As for the endless chain of stupidity.
I think that as long as idiots procreate, there will be idiot children.
They will spew their abhorrent rhetoric at their kids, the "Tabula Rasa" will be filled with imbecilic ideals and the cycle will continue.

Stupidity isn't hereditary luckily, it all depends on what the parent teaches his/her child.

Exactly, people with disabilities are surviving because it's easier in modern civilization.

Like Dustin said, Survival of the fittest has become a moot phrase in these times.
It carries no meaning anymore.

I suppose I should rephrase this thread to 'Humanity is getting dumber [and weaker]' ?
If that's the point your making?

some people perfer mac over a beast Windows operating system, people listen to botdf, nicki minaj, lil wayne, and like apple products, people make fun of them selves trying to make other people look bad, and some people think the world is gonna end in a few days, of course people are getting stupider, i agree with everything the OP said, and i have no shred of doubt, if someone from back in 1000bc did appear, i'd have to apologise for all the stupidity and tell him/her that if you dont upset them, they wont get butthurt and blabber on about how they're so much better than everyone else, but since the governments are being stupid also, stupid is going to take over the world.

Verqish wrote not really that "we are getting dumber" it is rather the fact that society has changed humans into lazy pieces of sh*t.

if you think about it, some of the most active and brilliant people are alive today, but a major population percentage couldn't care less and just expects everything to be given to us. if we were to be rid of all technology as of now, we would be a brilliant society and the lazy ******** would be killed off.

Exactly. Humanity is not getting dumber as a whole. We will continue to adapt to any challenges that may come our way. The problem is our lust for "the easy way out". We will do the bare minimum to get by. It is in our nature to be as such. This makes it, as has been said before, "easier and easier to live". The observation that humanity is getting stupider is merely an opinion. In reality, we are only doing what we need to get by, and therefore, are as lazy as we can get by with. Laziness is likely what is being portrayed as stupid these days, rather than actual, measurable, stupidity.

Pool wrote I'd rather not question your logic Jinx.

Please do,

It's very much an opinion based topic, I just backed up my side with some logic.

Like the post above the one above me states, it's more that people just take the easy way out rather than actually being dumber, which is perfectly valid.

That would make more sense, but intelligence (although it may have changed, your logic is good) has changed a lot less than people's ability to survive. Survival of the fittest is moot, but people haven't become dumber. Not significantly, anyway.

Although I do sometimes look at certain people in the world and quietly ponder to myself "Why are these people allowed to breed?".
