Well, if you really want to improve on making music I would suggest looking up time signatures and examples of pieces of music that use them. Film music is a great example to go off of for a composer first starting out. The inception soundtrack has many places where it switches from "duple" to "triple" and it can add some life to your music. And you should try repeating 4 different chords instead of 3. or you can go a little crazy and add more than 4 ;)
