There are these MAGICAL devices called smartphones that have these things in them that store electrical charge for a period of time! Amazing, isn't it?

I live in New Jersey, and during Hurricane Sandy and saw the same thing. This is caused by the exploding tranformers that move electricity!

Heres 2 videos!

A transformer is a power converter that transfers energy between two electrical circuits by inductive coupling between two or more windings. A varying current in the primary winding creates a varying magnetic flux in the transformer's core and thus a varying magnetic flux through the secondary winding. This varying magnetic flux induces a varying electromotive force (EMF), or "voltage", in the secondary winding. This effect is called inductive coupling.
~Wiki

Transformers explode when an electric power line running to a transformer suddenly transmits far too much electricity for the circuits within the transformer to process. The most common way that this can happen is during a lightning strike. There are automatic shutoffs within the transformer when too much power reaches it. They turn off within 60 milliseconds of having detected an energy spike; unfortunately, this is about 5 times too slow to do any good. The extra electricity heats up and melts the circuit. The circuits are made to be heat resistant and are kept cool by several gallons of refined mineral oil in a closed chamber. Despite this, the circuit becomes red hot and fails in a shower of electrical sparks, superheating and igniting the mineral oil. The mineral oil combusts explosively, causing a loud bang and sending metal shrapnel that was once the transformer scything everywhere.

It's because of the power outage... This happens pretty much every day somewhere in the world.

This happened a few years ago in Houston where I lives except it was a pipeline. When it blew up there was chaos, people driving the wrong way, looting and what not. The whole ground shook and the shy was lit up all orange and red. And if it matters it was at 6 or 630

^Fail troll

How are people still denying that it happened? There's video and article proof that it did. For those who are saying he's overreacting, I'm pretty sure you would be scared when everything around you turns black as night and there's ominous flashing lights lighting up the sky; a worldwide notion that the world is going to end was probably in EVERYONE's preconsciousness which would've probably made most of you shit your pants (considering a large population of TTG has not even hit puberty yet).

Also, maybe he couldn't take picture because the event was **** over already. Try thinking people; cognition is your friend.

If it hasn't already been said, it was an electrical transformer exploding.
